Meet Matt McMillon
Matt is a dedicated therapist focused on helping individuals and couples navigate their unique experiences and challenges. He holds a Master of Science in Marriage and Family Therapy from Oklahoma State University and is licensed to practice in Washington State. With years of cross-cultural non-profit work experience, Matt brings a compassionate approach to therapy.
Specializing in various therapeutic modalities, including Emotional Transformation Therapy (ETT), Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Matt tailors his practice to meet his clients’ diverse needs. He is committed to creating a safe and supportive environment where clients feel empowered to explore their thoughts and emotions.
Matt believes we all experience change and loss by being in this world and in relationships. Transition, loss, and the experience of grief will affect every person through various moments in life. These changes or losses are sometimes unexpected and can render us feeling hopeless. While expected, change and loss can be painful. Matt is keenly interested in how people construct meaning, especially after grief. He enjoys working with people seeking ways to adapt, thrive, and create meaning within themselves while coping with losses, including death, loss of relationships, illness, and many other life transitions.
In his practice, Matt also supports individuals and couples navigating the complexities of betrayal and ruptures in trust. He understands the profound impact that infidelity, out-of-control sexual behaviors, emotional disconnection, and breaches of trust can have on relationships. In his practice, Matt focuses on helping couples rebuild trust and foster open communication, guiding them through the complex healing process. He provides tools for understanding underlying emotions, facilitating difficult conversations, and re-establishing intimacy. His goal is to create a collaborative space where both partners feel heard and supported, ultimately helping them to reconnect and strengthen their bond.
Matt has an additional specialty in treating those affected by spiritual abuse and institutional betrayal, recognizing the lasting impact that broken trust within faith-based or community organizations can have on individuals. He is skilled at helping clients process complex feelings associated with these experiences, addressing issues of betrayal, trust, and self-worth within a safe therapeutic environment.
With a deep appreciation for the richness of identity, Matt is particularly attuned to the needs of LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities and immigrants, expatriates, and refugees. He believes in integrating the fullness of each client’s life experiences into the therapeutic process.
Matt is dedicated to walking alongside his clients as they embark on their journey toward healing and fulfillment. Outside of his clinical work, Matt enjoys outdoor adventures, experimenting with new recipes, and traveling.
