Meet Abigail Carey
Abby is an individual and couples therapist here at the Bellevue Trauma Recovery Center. She earned her master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Gonzaga University and is currently licensed to practice in both Washington and Texas. Throughout her career she has prioritized fostering strong therapeutic relationships built on compassion for self and others.
Practicing from a trauma informed, integrative approach, Abby uses many therapeutic modalities including Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Narrative therapy.
Over the years Abby has developed a passion for supporting women in the exploration of their identity and major life changes. This can include career changes, becoming a parent, experiencing a breakup, intimate partner betrayal or experiencing a loss. Abby also focuses on supporting folks struggling in their reproductive journey. This often includes perinatal loss, fertility challenges, perinatal mood and anxiety disorders, and navigating termination of a pregnancy.
Abby holds the Perinatal Mental Health Certification (PMH-C), which recognizes clinicians who possess the competency required to help mothers, fathers, and families experiencing perinatal mood and anxiety disorders ; reflecting her deep commitment to this specialized area of care. Most recently, she is committed to supporting those navigating the challenging legislation and abortion bans which have led to complicated feelings of institutional betrayal for many. She is committed to supporting her clients in navigating these challenges with intention, understanding and confidence.
With her clinical experience and as a mother herself, Abby has a unique ability to support parents not only in their own growth and wellbeing but additionally, the growth and wellbeing of their children. Abby is an inclusive and affirming clinician who empowers her clients to explore their stories through a nonjudgmental lens that supports vulnerability and growth.
